This modern rug has an original design created by Women who Weave In our Zapotec culture the diamond shape is called an Eye of God
The wool yarn is dyed with mosses to make it green; the dark green is made by mixing indigo with pericon and the greenish yellow is made from stone moss. Some of the brown and beige tones are made by using tree moss and other shades of brown are made from walnut shells. The reddish tones are made from cochineal and to get an orange tone we mix lemon with the cochineal.
All our rugs are made on pedal looms in our homes in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca. Given their thickness and resistance they can be used in living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and hallways or hung on walls as decorative tapestries. Because of their resistance and thickness, our floor mats are ideal to be used in hallways, the living room, and bedrooms. Because of their patterns and beauty, our rugs can be also used as decorative elements on walls.
We make our own 100% natural dyes from plants, minerals and insects that we collect in the area. We weave rugs with a wide range of colors, combining dyed yarns with natural colored yarns (white, grey, black).
